The thing I like about GFI is that when Gene designed it, he took his design, development and engineering expertise gained from his years with Leo Fender at the Fender Guitar Company and built the strongest, lightest weight, most trouble-free steel guitar on the market today and did it without sacrificing tone, sustain and playability ... and anybody who knows Bobbe Seymour knows I preach tone above all else.

Standard design theory says you take a wood body and screw a cast aluminum piece on each end thus making the soundboard a load-bearing part of the structure.   Gene used aircraft quality aluminum and built a very strong, rigid, lightweight box for the soundboard to ride in. The same reasoning applies to why airplanes are built with aluminum instead of wood ... stronger, lighter and more durable.

Add to that a fanatical attention to detail and you have one very fine instrument.   For instance, all screws are stainless steel.   Now what does that mean so you?   Screws are normally coated with something to prevent them from rusting but the coating can get damaged for any number of reasons thus allowing rust to creep in. This can't happen with solid stainless steel screws which, by the way, are stronger than regular screws.   Moving parts where there would normally be metal on metal contact are Teflon coated or Delrin bearings are used ... no lubrication needed and normal wear and tear just doesn't happen.

See how good it feels to sit down at an instument that was built with everything except shortcuts.
